Common problems and solutions of pearlescent pigment in coating application

Ⅰ.Poor direction of pearlescent pigment, the occurrence of common phenomenon

Reason:

Very light pearlescent paint on dark substrate

The spray is too thick or the gun is too close

Affected by silicone/grease and leveling/defoaming/plasticizer in the formulation or primer

Solution:

Precoat light colored primer with fine bead pigment

Improve the construction method, better divided into several thin coating

Clean utensils and substrates, improve auxiliaries

Integral composition, the correct choice of dilution

Ⅱ.No pearlescent effect or poor pearlescent effect

Reason:

Paint stability/poor compatibility between components

The dispersion fineness of other pigments besides pearlescent pigment is not enough

Too much covering colour

Poor orientation of pearlescent pigment

Improper dispersion results in crystal breakage of pearlescent pigment tablets

Solution:

Check the stability of paint and compatibility of each component

Check if the paint used alone/cured is transparent
